Well
Done the Kerry Association! Their fourth Fund Raising Dance
for Christie Hospital raised over £3,500.00. That now
brings their Grand Total, for Christies, to a staggering £10,000-00.
The Association were motivated into this fund raising venture
by the excellent treatment that one of their members - Patsy
Kane has received from the hospital.

for the Rainbow Family Trust. The
Associations would like thank St Annes G.A.A. who donated £100

The
inaugural meeting of the Manchester association took place in
St Brendan's, Old Trafford (now, sadly, no more an Irish club)
on 9th July, 1986. This meeting followed an exploratory
meeting held at St. Brendan's in April with Harry Purcell, Sean
Dempsey, Joe Grannell, and Bernard Corbett present.
The Association is a small one by Manchester standards. They
hold their monthly meetings at Saint Bernadette's Parish Club
and organise four dances a year.
Present members of the committee are John O'Leary - President;
Cath McDonald - Chairperson; Bernard Corbett - Secretary;
Kevin Foley - Treasurer; Joe Grannell and Eddie McDonald.
The association hold all their dances at the English Martyrs
Parish Club. Please refer to the "Entertainments"
page
Well known Manchester Irish personalities who have served
on the committee are:-
Harry Purcell (RIP); Sean Dempsey (RIP) and Jim Billington.
One of the recent events that sticks in the memory is the
Association's attendance at Comoradh '98 in Enniscorthy. The
banner was carried proudly through the streets of Enniscorthy
and up Vinegar Hill led by Jim Billington in his pike man's
costume.

22nd October 2005
The English Martyrs had the honor of hosting the UK's first gathering of the Leinster Province Association. Music supplied by the brilliant Dermot Hegarty had the record crowd dancing to the wee small hours.
All sections of the Manchester Irish community were in attendance including GMR's "Come into the Parlour" Evelyn Grealy and Manchester Central MP Mr Tony Lloyd. Looking at the photographic evidence, everybody had a great time!
